While it’s not quite a 19-pound baby, a 14-pound baby born right here in the United States of America is pretty spectacular. Matthew Anthony Maldanado was born at a staggering 14 pounds 3.6 ounces. Fortunately for his mother, Emily, he was born via C-section; unfortunately for Emily, she was in labor for two days. At least the baby was healthy, even if the mother was in misery for two whole days, right?
“There was an absolutely incredible number so I thought they’d transposed and then I came in here and it wasn’t a transposition,” said Dr. Roberta Bruni of the Natividad Medical Center, where baby Matthew came into the world with the impact of a cannon ball (and at about the size of a cannon ball, to boot).
At least hospital staff warned father Jose Maldanado to expect a big baby; hopefully he’s got some toddler-sized clothes on hand to stuff his little brawler into, because 14 pounds is a whole lot of newborn. Last October, a 13-pound premature baby was born in Ft. Worth, Texas.
