How’s that saying go? I don’t know much about art, but I know what I like.
Well, apparently somebody really liked this photo taken in 1981 by photographer Cindy Sherman. I mean, they really, really, really liked it. Enough to spend $3,890,500 to purchase it at an auction hosted by Christie’s on Wednesday.
The self portrait was expected to draw a bid somewhere between $1.5 and $2 million smackeroos, but a bidding war broke out, resulting in the record purchase price.
With nearly every citizen carrying a camera around with them at all times on their phone, I’m guessing none of the multitudes of pictures snapped each day will ever make enough money to compare to Sherman’s snapshot.
If a big payout isn’t enough to get you fired up about photography, maybe you can find inspiration from these talented photographers.
Even if they aren’t worth millions, it’s still fun to look at high-speed photography and, of course, photobombs.
