I think it’s not hard to make the occasional mental error, but some mistakes are just too massive to make. For example, John Wayne is a beloved American actor and cowboy icon whose very image invokes everything great about America. John Wayne Gacy is a reviled American serial killer and pedophile whose very image invokes everything creepy and wrong about clowns. Republican Presidential hopeful Michele Bachmann confused John Wayne Gacy with John Wayne while at a campaign stop in her hometown of Waterloo, Iowa.
During an interview with CNN, Bachmann said, “Well what I want them to know is just like John Wayne was from Waterloo, Iowa. That’s the kind of spirit that I have, too.” Whoops; as it turns out, John Wayne Gacy is from Waterloo, Iowa (like Bachmann) and John Wayne is from Winterset, Iowa (though his parents met in Waterloo).

Just ask Howard Dean about the forgiving nature of Americans; the Dean Scream turned him into a national joke, and it looks as though this might be Michele Bachman’s version of that time Barack Obama broke the Presidential Seal.
