"I'm DeMaurice Smith, and I approve this message!"
It seemed like the NFL lock-out would never end, and really, I was beginning to think it wouldn’t. Despite the fact that the NFL and NFLPA agreed to a CBA way back in July, nothing has actually happened aside from the players returning to training camp and signing union cards. Well, fret no longer, football fans. The NFLPA has officially ratified a 10-year collective bargaining agreement with the NFL! NFLPA union chief DeMaurice Smith and NFL commissioner Roger Goodell will sign the new labor agreement on the steps of the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton, Ohio, today.
The deal looks to be a radical change between how teams and players will interact. Among other things, the agreement has expanded drug testing to cover human growth hormone, which is amazing since I believe that requires a blood test rather than a simple urine test (I could be/possibly am wrong). Two-a-day practices will be limited, OTAs will be limited, and new disciplinary procedures will be put in place to ensure more uniform punishments for players who violate the league’s conduct policy.
