As you were growing up, how many times did your mother tell you to “Stop playing with your food!”? I know I heard that phrase more than once.
But what if your food sort of plays with you?
A lot of people are squeamish about eating sushi and a delicacy served in Japan won’t make them any more likely to try something new.
It’s called odori-don or “dancing squid rice bowl”. Basically they cut the head off a squid, then plop the rest of the tentacled sea beast down over a bowl of rice. They take the head and slice it thin strips of sashimi, but that’s not the weird part. The server then pours soy sauce over the squid body. Apparently sodium in the soy sauce causes a reaction in the squid’s body that makes the tentacles flail around like crazy. It looks like you might have to put up a fight to get this down your gullet. YUM!
