Hatred and discrimination in any form is an ugly thing.
A group in Germany tried to show some right-wing nationalists that there is a way to end hatred.
An organization called Exit works to let members of hate-mongering groups know there is a way to leave their white supremacist ways behind.
To get their message to the people it would affect the most, Exit anonymously sent 250 T-shirts to a radical “Rock For Germany” concert in Gera to be handed out for free to those attending the event.
The front of the shirt initially said “Hardcore Rebel” with accompanying skull and crossbones in typical radical fashion.
However, proving to be trickier than a Penn and Teller act, once the shirt was washed, the original design faded away and changed to reveal a new slogan.
The secondary logo offered a new message, saying basically “If your t-shirt can do it, you can do it too — we’ll help you get away from right-wing extremism.” That puts a whole new spin on the Nike advertising campaign and slogan “Just Do It.”
Here’s hoping at least a few of the people who took the shirts home will heed the message of moving toward tolerance. It just goes to show that like the white T-shirts for peace in Columbia a few years ago, a shirt can be more than a simple piece of clothing. It can be a political statement.
