At the Indiana State Fair in Indianapolis, one of the highlight events was the concert series. The Grammy-winning country duo Sugarland was set to perform before a crowd of 12,000 people, with their most ardent fans being seated in the Sugarpit, a VIP-type section in the front of the stage. Unfortunately, as we all know by now, that concert never happened after high winds toppled the stage, killing 5 people and injuring 40 more. Well, according to the Indiana State Fair, the show must go on; the Indiana State Fair will reopen today after holding a memorial service for those who died during the horrible accident.
Sugarland and opening act Sara Bareilles have cancelled an upcoming appearance at the Iowa State Fair, in order to A) deal with what happened between Bareilles’ set and Sugarland’s set, and B) because most of their equipment is still stuck in a police investigation zone. Meanwhile, the fair must go on, because people need to enjoy deep-fried things and food on sticks.
Said Bareilles of the collapse, “The accident at the Indiana State Fair felt like a bad dream. The weather changed in a matter of minutes and the stage collapsed in a matter of seconds.” In case you haven’t see what happened yet, I’ll post the video of the stage collapse below. Warning: the video is shot from far enough away to avoid most of the terrible details, but it’s still kind of terrible.
