If you are in New York and stroll regularly around the corner of Columbus Avenue and 68th Street, you’ve most likely seen a ragged green 1994 Civic.
That’s because it’s been in the same parking space for 11 years.
Owner Charles Mysak considers that corner prime real estate for his not-so-mobile book store. The former lawyer keeps his stock of books inside the vehicle and sells them to passersby. With the Borders chain closing, independent book sellers are in even more demand.
In order to keep his favorite spot, Mysak feeds $36 per day into the meter. That’s a lot of quarters.
He does have to move the car temporarily in the mornings so the street sweeper can make its rounds. Mysak’ Civic has occasionally been ticketed if it’s owner is too slow feeding the meter. According to the New York Post, he currently owes $470 in unpaid parking tickets. I wonder if any of those tickets had yoga poses on them to offer a calming effect.
I guess Mysak is in good company if Optimus Prime and Batman can get parking tickets.
