What started in Egypt in January continues to spread through the region. More unrest and civil war in the Middle East has resulted in the ouster of Libyan dictator Muammar Gaddafi.
Or is it Moamar Qaddafi?
There has long been a debate about how to spell the dictator’s name. As a matter of fact, a couple of years ago an ABC News blog compiled a list of 112 different spellings of his name that they’d found in various news and governmental sources.
After rebels stormed into Qaddafi’s Bab al-Aziziya military compound in Tripoli on Tuesday, the world may now have the definitive spelling. His son’s passport was discovered during the looting of the compound and the name upon it is … (drumroll) … Gathafi. That’s right. One of the least popular spellings is the one the Libyan family used for their official international traveling document.
No matter how you spell it, the crazy former leader of Libya is on the run after insurgents and protesters chased him to parts unknown. Like another leader in exile, Osama Bin Laden, there’s a price on El Kadhafi’s head. Hopefully the citizens of Libya can soon begin rebuilding their country.
