Whale sightings are on the rise in the North Sea along the coast of England in 2011.
But where one whale ended up has created quite a stir. A 33-foot-long Sei whale was found in a salt marsh field 800 yards from the north bank of the River Humber near the village of Skeffling.
There’s a crackpot theory about a UFO lifting the whale out of the water and depositing it nearly a half mile inland, but marine biologists are offering a different tale about the whale’s demise. According to the experts, they believe an extremely high tide caused by the autumnal equinox allowed the whale to swim inland. There’s no evidence it was a neon blue glowing tide though. Once the water receded, the whale was left behind. In her struggles to return to the water, the female mammal ended up rolling over and covering her blow hole, resulting in death by suffocation.
This is one whale that won’t be turned into an illegal dinner or become part of a whale cocktail.
Sadly for this sea beast, there was no last-minute life-saving rescue and resulting happy whale dance.
