Steve Jobs succumbed to pancreatic cancer.
Well, the writing has been on the wall for awhile, and I doubt anyone is really surprised that Steve Jobs has passed away due to complications from pancreatic cancer. After all, he finally stepped down from the company after taking a leave of absence from Apple for medical reasons, but to have the rumors confirmed? That’s pretty sad. Apple is doing a nice memorial to Steve on their website, and the company’s internal memo regarding Jobs’ death is pretty heartbreaking.
Jobs is the man who saved Apple from bankruptcy and who brought the iPad and iPod into the world, thereby changing computers and personal entertainment forever. Whatever you want to say about his policies or his company or his design vision, there’s no denying the man could whip the Apple cult into a frenzy with a single press release, and that he single-handedly turned around a company that needed a loan from Bill Gates–their chief competitor–to stay afloat.
This is a guy with huge ideas, and this is a guy who could sell. No doubt Apple will miss him in the months and years to come. No matter how skilled a CEO Tim Cook might be, he’s not Jobs.
