One of the traditions of this time of year is the corn maze. Usually, it’s a field of corn (duh) with a neat pattern on it. For example, this year’s corn maze at the Connors Farm is an impressive Headless Horseman/Salem, Massachusetts-themed affair, and as corn mazes go, it’s pretty tough. Some unlucky folks found this out the hard way. A family lost in a corn maze had to call 911 to be rescued by a K9 unit in Danvers, Massachussets.
“On a scale of 1 to 10, it’s probably a 9 [in difficulty], where Clint Eastwood was like 7,” said Bob Connor, owner of Connors Farm where the corn maze is an annual tradition. “They were only 25 feet from the exit when they called the police. Maybe they didn’t want to ruin it for us, but in an emergency situation, it is perfectly acceptable to cut through the corn.”
Connor added he plans to make the most of his 15 minutes of fame, by marking the spot where the family got lost in his maze, which was designed by specialty company The Maize. “I don’t want to offend them at all; maybe I’ll just say ‘The Famous Spot’ and let people read between the lines.”
I have to admit, that’s not the worst idea I’ve ever heard (and it’s not the wurst idea I’ve ever heard, either).
