Are you looking to put together an epic Thanksgiving feast? Well, be prepared to pay. According to the American Farm Bureau Federation, the cost of a Thanksgiving dinner with all the fixings has risen a staggering 13 percent over last year. We’re not talking some kind of alcohol-soaked turkey or any kind of odd holiday meal, the traditional bird and sides will now run you significantly more than last year, thanks to rising food costs.
The cost of a 16-pound turkey is up a staggering 4 percent by itself! A 16-pound bird now runs you $21.57, which is nearly half of the total meal cost. You can feed about 10 people on $49.20, which is up from last year’s $43.47. Maybe people will be more accepting of Thanksgiving leftovers now if they know just how much the spread costs the person throwing the dinner. Either that, or you start a BYO Thanksgiving, in which everyone brings a dish to pass and the host provides the turkey.
Thanks a lot, inflation. Thanks to the cost of Thanksgiving, I’m going to have to cancel Christmas.
