It was a banner year for rapper Kanye West, who found both critical and commercial success after a year-long hiatus from performing in the wake of the MTV Awards disaster when he interrupted Taylor Swift. He’s back and bigger than ever. Kanye West leads the way when it comes to 2012 Grammy nominations, but the rest of the musical pack aren’t very far behind him.
“It feels incredible right now,” said Bruno Mars, who was nominated for seven Grammys last year. “I’m so glad the album is being recognized in this way. This awards stuff, I’m still trying to get used to it. It’s hard for me as Adele and Kanye West are incredible, so the fact that the album was nominated in same category is amazing,”
Kanye West paced the pack with seven nods, for his two 2011 albums My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy and Watch the Throne, his team-up with Jay-Z. Bruno Mars, Adele, and the Foo Fighters trailed close behind with six nods each. Newcomer Skrillex was the highest-nominated newcomer, with five award nominations; Lil Wayne also got five nods. The Grammys will take place in the Staples Center in Los Angeles on February 12, 2012.
