It had been 749 days since Tiger Woods last sank a putt to take home a tournament title. That long losing streak is over. The world has been asking, is this the end of Tiger? His crude on-course behavior, his personal issues, his distraction by business matters, and his injuries had taken their toll on the former number one player in the world, driving him out of the top 50 in the rankings. However, At the Sherwood Country Club in Thousand Oaks, California, none of that mattered. All that mattered was sinking putts, hitting greens, and playing like a champion. Tiger Woods won the Chevron World Challenge, and thus a crucial first step in his return to glory was taken.
“It feels great. To go head to head against Zach all day was a bunch of fun for both of us. I had been in contention twice this year, which is not often. I felt normal. I felt comfortable coming down the stretch. I have been there so many times. Was I nervous? Absolutely. But it was a comfortable feeling,” said Tiger after the victory, which he pulled off with last-second closing heroics. “This was my third chance to win a tournament this year and I finally won it. I pulled it off … one down with two to play … to birdie the last two holes is as good as it gets.”
Woods rises from 52nd to 21st in the world with the win over second-place Zach Johnson. The title was Tiger’s first win in over two years. It remains to be seen where he’s going to go from here, but I’m sure he thinks that the days of Charl Schwartzel winning Masters Tournaments are over.
