To call the New Orleans Saints offense prolific is to disrespect them. New Orleans, lead by quarterback Drew Brees, are legendary. Guiding a record-setting offense, Brees and company destroyed the Atlanta Falcons 45-16 at the Mercedez Benz Superdome on Monday Night Football last night. In the process, Drew Brees broke Dan Marino’s single season passing yardage mark of 5087 yards, which Marino set with the Miami Dolphins in 1984.
“It was special. I’m not thinking that we are 9 yards from the record. I was just focused on execution. I guess it all registered when the guys picked me up (in celebration),” admitted Brees, who came to the Saints from the San Diego Chargers in 2006. “It’s like a pitcher with a no-hitter. Don’t talk to him. Leave him alone. All I wanted to do was just play. The last thing you want is to know you’re a certain amount of yardage away and have that influence your decision-making.”
So what’s next for the Saints? Well, it’s either a return to the Super Bowl or bust. I figure a team this good, coming together at the right time, guided by a record-shattering quarterback should aim for the Super Bowl.
