Kelly Clarkson: America's Libertarian Idol

When it comes to politics, things can get messy when fans get tangled up with celebrities or governmental agencies.  Fortunately for American Idol champ and recording star Kelly Clarkson, Ron Paul fans are the supportive type, not the destructive type.  On Twitter, Kelly Clarkson Tweeted her support for dark horse Republican candidate Ron Paul for President; in response, Ron Paul supporters hit Amazon.com and bough Kelly Clarkson’s new album in droves.  Stronger, the latest album from Clarkson, went from #38 to #7 on Amazon’s album sales chart.

“I must admit I have not really followed you but your recent stance on Ron Paul made me check you out,” wote one Ron Paul fan in a review of Clarkson’s album on Amazon.  “If you are smart enough to support Ron Paul then you are probably talented too.”

These days, it can be difficult to express your opinion publicly (like via vanity plate), but Twitter gives everyone a platform.  Hey, if things work out the way I want them, we might see Ron Paul making an Iggy Pop-like guest appearance on Idol next season!  Better yet, we might be seeing President Paul on American Idol; that might be the best response of all.
