Denver coach John Fox gets a crushing hug from his quarterback, Tim Tebow.
John Fox and John Elway, Denver’s head coach and VP of football operations, aren’t the biggest Tim Tebow fans. Despite their quarterback’s winning ways, the two have been less than supportive of a quarterback playing in what amounts to his first full year of NFL action. Under former head coach Josh McDaniels, Tebow showed some quarterbacking skills, but playing in Fox’s more conservative offense, Tebow struggled. However, for whatever reason, the more Tebow plays the more Denver wins. Tim Tebow and the Denver Broncos bested the Pittsburgh Steelers 29-23 in last night’s AFC wild card game; Denver will face New England, and Pittsburgh will be going home.
As usual, Tebow wasn’t terribly accurate, completing only 1o of 21 passes, but when he hit a receiver, he did so in open space. Tebow finished with a career high 316 yards; five of his ten completed passes went for 30 yards or more. Even after Pittsburgh adjusted to Denver in the second half, dropping Troy Polamalu back into deeper coverage, Denver continued to make big passes. In the end, it took only 11 seconds for Denver to prove they were the better team yesterday, with Tebow completing an 80-yard touchdown pass to Demaryius Thomas for the win.
Tebow Time will last another week in Denver.
