Well, the case is over. Natalee Holloway is officially deceased. In a court in Birmingham, Alabama, Judge Alan King honored the request of Dave Holloway, Natalee’s father, to have the girl declared legally dead in part to free up her college fund for use by her younger brother. No doubt this is also a move to bring some closure to himself, if not his wife Beth. While Dave supports this filing, Beth has refused to give up hope.
“Beth’s position is she has no proof or indication that Natalee is still alive, but absent any proof or indication that she is dead, she always wants to hang onto that slight glimmer of hope,” said Ms. Holloway’s attorney, John Q. Kelly. “No mother likes to, without evidence, have her daughter declared dead. She wants to carry around her around in her heart.”
Holloway disappeared in Aruba on May 30, 2005, during a senior class trip she had taken with her Mountain Brook High School classmates. Her accused killer, Joran Van der Sloot, was convicted of murdering 21-year-old businesswoman Stephany Flores in Peru. Interestingly enough, Van der Sloot admitted to killing Flores on May 30, 2010; that’s the fifth anniversary of Natalee’s disappearance.
