Say whatever you want to about the latter stages of Whitney Houston’s voice was and is one for the ages. No matter how many people can kind of sing like her, there was only one Whitney. Now, that Whitney is gone. Whitney Houston is dead at age 48. Her publicist, Kristen Foster, announced the death, but the location and circumstances for her death have not been released. (EDIT: Apparently, she was at the Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills, California, where she was to host a Grammys party for Clive Davis. Whitney was found dead in the bathtub.)
She did more for karaoke’s rise and fall than anyone else, but man, could Whitney sing or what? It’s just a real shame that she couldn’t stay away from the drugs and alcohol, and you have to wonder if there was something in the details of her death that isn’t being mentioned because she was caught up into drugs again. I hate to speculate like that, because speculation can be dangerous, but… come on, is anyone surprised? I mean, it’s shocking to see that she’s dead, but I figured she’d relapse and there’d be something else going on. Either that, or the years of hard living and abuse took its toll on her.
