In a scene straight out of the Old West, the Glenn M. Anderson Federal Building’s seventh floor was the scene of a shootout. No, a rogue nut didn’t get through security and it wasn’t an act of terrorism. One federal agent shot another federal agent, then was subsequently killed by a third federal agent in the offices of the Immigration Customs Enforcement (ICE). Apparently, one agent shot his supervisor, wounding him, before being shot by a second agent intending to stop the rampage before it spread.
“At times like this words honestly seem inadequate. When something like this happens in our offices, it’s incomprehensible,” said ICE Special Agent in Charge Claude Arnold.
The injured man was taken to St. Mary’s Medical Center with multiple wounds on multiple parts of his body, but apparently he was in good condition in spite of his many injuries. The nature of the dispute was not revealed, but I’m surprised to hear that these guys carry guns around their offices; perhaps every federal agent job is dangerous. I guess the ICE does more than just shut down file-sharing websites all day.
