Tomorrow is Ash Wednesday, the first day of Lent and a time in which members of the Catholic Church give up the things they enjoy, such as meat on Friday, to prove their devotion to God. But that’s tomorrow. Tonight? Ahh, tonight is the night to drink it up, party like crazy, and have one last big day of revelry. Tonight is Mardi Gras, AKA Fat Tuesday, AKA everyone’s favorite party day, and New Orleans is going to do it up in traditionally big style. Among the celebrity performers this year will be Poison frontman Brett Michaels and Cyndi Lauper.
After this is 55 days or so of holiness between now and Easter, so you’d best enjoy those iPods and hamburgers, because starting on Wednesday you’ll be in self-denial mode. Or, I guess, you’ll just do everything you were doing before now, except tonight you’ll have a big party, consume the king cake, and throw beads at flashers. Really, it’s your call. I mean, if one guy can live off beer for Lent, I guess you can celebrate… err, self-deny yourself in whatever way you feel best.
Laissez les bon temps rouler!
