Ryan Braun is now a free man, ready to start on opening day.
Reigning National League MVP Ryan Braun is one of the most valuable players on his team, and on Saturday, October 1, right before the opening of the playoffs, one of Major League Baseball’s drug testers visited him. The man drew a sample of blood, and on Monday, that blood was sent in for testing. According to the MLB’s drug testing rules, barring unusual circumstances, samples for testing should be sent via Fed Ex to the lab on the day they are taken. The drug tester felt that the sample would be safer in his hands than in some Fed Ex office over the weekend. This delay is the reason why Ryan Braun’s 50-game suspension for performance enhancing drugs was overturned.
“Since joining our organization in 2005, Ryan Braun has been a model citizen and a person of character and integrity. Knowing Ryan as I do, I always believed he would succeed in his appeal,” said Milwaukee Brewers owner Mark Attanasio. “It is unfortunate that the confidentiality of the program was compromised, and we thank our fans and everyone who supported Ryan and did not rush to judgment.”
So, does this mean Braun didn’t use the performance enhancing drugs he was accused of using? Well, possibly; I have no idea what delaying a sample test for a couple of days might possibly do, but I imagine that from now on, any samples will immediately be shipped to the lab, probably via expedited means, in an attempt to keep Major League Baseball from embarrassing itself in front of its independent arbitration panel again.
