Remember at the end of last season when John Elway said that Tim Tebow was going to be the starting quarterback for the Denver Broncos this season? Well, much like the support Elway and John Fox showed Tim Tebow during the season, that was a lie. The moment Peyton Manning became available as a free agent, Elway and Fox immediately started chasing after Peyton Manning. As it turns out, they got him. Peyton Manning is going to become a Denver Bronco.
As for Tebow, nobody knows yet. Will Fox try to turn him into a tight end or fullback or H-back? Will Tebow find himself suiting up for a different team, like his hometown Jacksonville Jaguars? Will he sit behind Peyton Manning until his contract is over? Will Tebow find himself a free agent like Manning once was? There’s no real telling what might happen, honestly. I guess when you can get Peyton Manning, you probably should sign him since, y’know, he’s a first-ballot hall-of-famer and the best quarterback of his generation.
One thing you can be pretty sure of is that Peyton Manning does NOT want Tebowmania hanging over his head next season, especially if it takes Manning awhile to return to form or if Manning struggles behind Denver’s weak offensive line (and with Denver’s borderline awful wide receiver corps). Manning’s rumored to be signing a 5-year, $90-million-dollar contract, so Denver’s quarterback position is pretty much locked up for awhile.
