You can call Fifty Shades of Grey and the other entries in the Fifty Shades trilogy a mommy porn version of Twilight, and that’s not far from the truth. After all, the best-selling series of books by E. L. James started life as Twilight fan-fiction and became something significantly more disturbing. Well, that disturbance is spreading, and it has some powerful Hollywood backers. Universal Pictures and Focus Features have won the bidding war to create the Fifty Shades movie series, and the producers of the Oscar-winning smash hit The Social Network are taking on the task of bringing Christian Grey to multiplexes.
Michael De Luca and Dana Brunetti are reuniting to work in the Fifty Shades movie, expected to be the first in a trilogy (at least). Fifty Shades is an insanely popular series of erotica novels with BDSM themes, kind of a kinky-ish modern take on the Harlequin romance novel that has been dubbed the biggest entry in the growing genre of mommy porn. The Shades books, like Twilight before it, has some very disturbed, devoted fans.
I can only imagine what sorts of disturbing merchandise tie-ins THAT movie series will have.
