When it comes to politics, increasing actors and other wealthy people are putting their money where their mouth is. It’s not just Stephen Colbert starting a mock super PAC, either; now Cecil B. DeMille award-winner Morgan Freeman is getting in on the political action. Morgan Freeman has donated a staggering one million dollars to a pro-Obama super PAC. The lucky recipient is a super PAC known as Priorities USA Action, known supporters of Barack Obama.
“President Obama has done a remarkable job in terrible circumstances,” said Freeman in a statement. “He has ended combat operations in Iraq, put in place sensible reforms of Wall Street, saved the auto industry and protected the healthcare of every American with a preexisting condition. He has recognized the full equality of all our brothers and sisters and placed impressive, accomplished women on the Supreme Court. In return for this he is being targeted by hundreds of millions of dollars in special-interest money. I for one am proud to lend my voice – and support – to those who defend him.”
All in all, thanks to Freeman and former Quaalcom CEO Irwin Jacobs and his wife, Priorities USA Action took in a staggering $6 million in June. One of the PAC’s founding members is Jeffrey Katzenberg of Dreamworks fame, who helped start the PAC with a $2 million dollar donation last year. Other high profile donations have come from Steven Spielberg, Chelsea Handler, and J.J. Abrams.
