You have to hand it to Jimmy Kimmel.  On the biggest stage of his career, the 2012 Emmy Awards, he made sure to do his own thing as much as he could.  The late night talk show host is known for his creative pranks, and he wasn’t going to shy away from that sort of thing as the host of the 2012 Emmy Awards last night on ABC.  Kimmel wanted something to capture the attention of non-viewers, and he got some help from a celebrity friend named Tracy Morgan.  Jimmy Kimmel orchestrated a prank at the 2012 Emmys, faking a collapse by Tracy Morgan in an attempt to drive more viewers to the show.

“Tracy Morgan just passed out on stage the Emmys.  Turn ABC on now,” Kimmel told viewers to tweet and post to Facebook to drive more viewers to the program.  “Just lie there for about 10 minutes or so.  And when people tune in they will see this on the stage.”

To his credit, Morgan laid there for 10 minutes, through an awards presentation by Connie Britton and Hayden Panettiere and a commercial break before he got off stage.  The official given reason for Morgan’s fake collapse was exhaustion, which is great because that’s Hollywood’s excuse for everything slightly odd these days.
