It’s a sad story turned into the most adorable thing ever. Kitty the cat was found abandoned in a garden when she was only one day old; Buttons the Jack Russell terrier was one of eight puppies, abandoned by her mother because she is the runt of the litter. Rather than letting the two foundlings die, the staff at Battersea Cats and Dogs home decided to raise them together by hand. Kitty and Buttons are now a pair of mismatched interspecies sisters, and are the most adorable baby animals in the history of adorable baby animals.
“Normally we’d hand rear puppies and kittens separately but we thought we could try putting them together as they are both so young. Luckily it’s paid off as they adore being with each other and do everything together – it’s really very sweet,” says Sascha Taylor, the nurse at Battersea who takes care of the two. “Hand-rearing them is hard work – I have to feed them every two hours, even throughout the night – but it’s totally worth it. We’re not sure if they’ll be re-homed together, though it would be great if they did.”
Whoever adopts one better adopt the other. When Kitty gets sent to the cattery to spend time with other cats, the two of them cry until they’re back together again. They’re as close as sisters can be, and they deserve to be together forever. The pair of them are 4 weeks old, and if someone in the UK doesn’t go adopt them, I’m going to buy a plane ticket and do it myself.
