Uggs aren’t just ugly, they’re also dangerous according to a British judge.  When 49-year-old Vera Baxter, the assistant head at Stretford High School in the United Kingdom, swerved her Volkswagen Golf across the dividing line and plowed into a Mercedes driven by 33-year-old Jason Hoang, she had a good excuse for her wreck.  Turns out, her “Cardy” Ugg boot got trapped beneath the brake pedal and she was trying to free it when she lost control of her car.  However, you can’t blame your wreck on your boots, said Judge Martin Steiger, who ruled Vera Baxter was at fault for a wreck caused by her Uggs.

“My Ugg boot got trapped at the traffic lights.  I suppose it was a freak accident – as I put my boot across the prong of the pedal it caught in the seams.  I attempted to free it with my left hand and then swerved to the right to avoid going into the back of vehicles in front of me.  There seemed to me more space on the right-hand side to avoid oncoming traffic,” said Ms. Baxter.  I can’t tell you how terrifying it was. When the crash happened the airbags came out, I smashed my head on the steering wheel. I could smell horrible petrol smells, I thought the car was going to catch fire, I thought I was going to die.”  She added, ”I threw myself out of the car, crawling to the middle of the road.  I had had the boots for a year and they were my first pair of Ugg boots.  It’s a freak risk but I keep a pair of trainers in the car now.”

Between Uggs still being a thing and the omnipresence of Crocs, it makes me wonder why people just don’t wear real shoes when they do something that involves using your feet in an unencumbered fashion.  I mean, would you drive in high heels or house shoes?  Probably not, right?  Well, I guess some people would, and do, but it just doesn’t seem safe to me.  Maybe I don’t understand the importance of shoes because I wear running shoes all the time.
