Lots of great things come up for sale at auctions. Everything from Banksy’s secret identity to an aircraft carrier to rare art works have been sold to the highest bidder, and have fetched some phenomenal prices. However, there’s nothing quite as big as movie memorabilia. Everyone loves movies, and it’s always fun to say stuff like, “I own Judy Garland’s Dorthy dress from The Wizard Of Oz.” Well, you missed your chance to buy said dress at auction this weekend; Judy Garland’s Dorothy dress sold for a staggering $480,000 at auction this weekend.
The sale was part of a two-day Hollywood extravaganza held by Julien’s Auctions in Beverley Hills, California. Aside from Dorothy Gale’s dress, they also sold Steve McQueen’s racing jacket, Julie Andrews’ Sound of Music dress, and sunglasses worn by Johnny Depp. The high water mark was, of course, Judy Garland’s blue gingham pinafore from the 1939 classic tale of a girl swept away to a magical land via tornado.
