Lance Armstrong Admits To Doping

Posted 1/18/2013 6:00 am by

oprah-lance-armstrong

It’s a huge coup for Oprah Winfrey and her struggling OWN cable television network:  an interview with the most controversial athlete in recent memory.  Everyone’s talking about Lance Armstrong, and it’s got nothing to do with his Tour de France titles or his hundreds of milions of dollars raised for cancer research.  It’s all about his Oprah interview, and he did not disappoint.  Lance Armstrong admitted to Oprah that he spent a career cheating on the professional cycling circuit.

Part of the reason why so many, myself included, believed in Armstrong was his vehemence at protecting his reputation (and his hundreds of negative drug tests going back for decades).  That was all part of Armstrong’s attempts to control the story, get out in front of any allegations and direct the narrative, as well as saving his reputation with sponsons.  Now that he’s given up the fight, he can admit that.

Said Armstrong, “If I didn’t like what somebody said…I tried to control that and said that’s a lie; they’re liars.  Now the story is so bad and so toxic, and a lot of it is true.”

Queens Bull Captured After Merry Chase

Posted 2/21/2017 6:40 pm by

There’s the concrete jungle.  There’s the urban cowboy.  There’s all kinds of farm and animal metaphors that concern New York City, but none of them actually reflect the actual animals.  The bull market on Wall Street has little to nothing to do with actual bulls, so any time you see a strange animal loose on […]

Concentration Camp “Escape Room” Shut Down

There’s a new game genre out there.  Part simulation, part social game, part physical challenge, escape rooms are really popular.  You wander through a scenario, stuff happens, and you have to try to figure your way out in a certain amount of time.  I’ve done similar things, but I haven’t done a full-fledged escape room […]

Synthetic marijuana is nothing to sneeze at.  In fact, it’s nothing to even try smoking, either, because it’s dangerous, dangerous stuff.  A street corner in Brooklyn, where Bushwick meets Bedford-Stuyvesant, has become known as “zombie corner” because of the massive amount of K2 addicts gathering there.  During one weekend day, 33 people passed out in […]

Donald Trump is back in the news again.  Stop me if you’ve heard that before.  However, it’s not his policies that are drawing attention this time; if anything, he’s getting attention paid to him thanks to the one thing he can do well:  draw crowds.  Donald Trump somehow transferred his reality show popularity and media […]
