The Iron Men gather in the Iron Man 3 trailer.

Whenever Marvel releases a film, it’s an event.  Marvel’s characters are so iconic, so well-done, so omnipresent in popular culture that it can’t help but raise a firestorm of attention when Marvel slips a new trailer out into the world.  When you’re returning to the character that started off the Marvel Films version of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and the billion-dollar Avengers franchise, that attention only triples.  Yes, that’s a pun on the name of Iron Man 3.  Iron Man 3 just got a new official UK trailer, and it’s an excellent one.  Check it out!

“I’m Tony Stark.  I build neat stuff.  I got a great girl.  And occasionally, I save the world,” Downey says in an opening voice-over.  “So why can’t I sleep?”

The reason Tony can’t sleep is the arch terrorist, Mandarin, as played by Ben Kingsley.  Joining star Robert Downey Jr. on the good side of things will be his lovely girlfriend Pepper (Gwyneth Paltrow), his best friend Rhodes (Don Cheadle), and more.  The film will be written and directed with frequent Downey collaborator Shane Black, the man who invented Lethal Weapon and knows his way around a dark, comic movie.  Iron Man 3 is the first step in the second phase of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which also includes the upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy film.
