Sometimes you just want to get the kids to bed so the adult party can start, but when it’s New Year’s Eve and there’s an expectation that you stay up until midnight to ring in the New Year, it can be tough to get the grown-up party started because it’s already getting pretty late. That’s where Netflix comes in. When you’re ready to get the kids to bed, or the kids are ready to go to bed, they can ring in the New Year with a familiar furry friend, then the grown folks can do what grown folks do while waiting for Ryan Seacrest and Taylor Swift to welcome the New Year. Netflix has a streaming New Year’s Eve countdown featuring King Julien of the Madagascar films available on demand. Check out a preview below.

It’s a great move by Netflix for a couple of reasons. Kids love King Julien as much as they love any other fuzzy critter from the Dreamworks Madagascar films, and probably more than they love real fuzzy critters from Madagascar, so it’s a win on that side. The countdown is full of singing and dancing animals, and it’s a lot of fun, so it’s a great promotion for Netflix’s upcoming show All Hail King Julien. And, it has to be said, Netflix wins a little favor from adults for helping them out in a time of need.
