Adele has a lot of power in the music industry, because she’s one of the biggest stars in the musical world. So when Adele and her camp decide something’s not right for their client, it doesn’t happen. In this case, Adele is flipping the bird to streaming services. Adele’s new album 25 will not be available on Apple Music or Spotify. In fact, no streaming services will be offering 25.
There’s a good reason behind this. Sales! Columbia is shipping 3.6 million physical copies of 25 around the country, and Sony expects 1.5 million of those to be sold pretty much immediately. When you factor in expected download and digital sales of 1 million units, Adele’s newest album just might threaten the sales records put up by NSYNC’s No Strings Attached back in the halcyon days of the boy band craze. Even if she doesn’t top that one-week sales number, odds are she’ll still be carrying home a lot of Grammy awards yet again.
Said a Spotify spokesperson, “We love and respect Adele, as do her 24 million fans on Spotify. We hope that she will give those fans the opportunity to enjoy 25 on Spotify alongside 19 and 21 very soon.”
