Well, not on purpose, but it happened.
I think it’s a common and well known bit of traditional dog training not to let a canine near a gun. They tend to not have the proper skills to handle firearms properly. They just aren’t good at it.
Unfortunately, accidents do happen.
In an odd and disconcerting fashion, Perry Alvin Price III’s prized hunting dog named Arthur accidentally stepped on the hunter’s shotgun as Price was loading items in his pickup truck during a hunting excursion. The Houston Chronicle has the story about the beloved teacher and his dog Arthur and the events that led to Price’s death when his beloved hound accidentally stepped on his hunting rifle and fatally shot him.
Apparently Arthur was excited about chasing a downed goose and stepped on the gun and shot his master. Price was shot in his femoral artery and died later at a local hospital.
Obviously, Price’s death was an unexpected tragedy and is a reminder about the issue of gun safety. Price was apparently a seasoned sportsman who made that one mistake. One mistake makes a difference.
Unfortunately, he came out on the losing end.
