When one of the richest men on the planet says something, people listen. That’s what happens when Bill Gates talks about money, at any rate. In an interview with the Wall Street Journal, he talks about how a new form of capitalism is needed to fix things for not just the rich, but the poor as well.
It’s not like Bill has anything to complain about. Capitalism as we know it is responsible for helping him build one of the world’s greatest fortunes. Although, it’s also helped people like Warren Buffett too — thankfully both men use their time and resources to address issues greater than themselves. After all, how many billionaires have you heard of who give away 85% of their entire wealth? That’s more than what Apple’s #1 man Steve Jobs can boast, considering how hard it is to try and dig up a charitable bone in his body.
But Gates says capitalism needs to be redesigned into “creative capitalism.” That’s his way of saying that market forces should be helping address the needs of less fortunate people. Quite frankly he is right: Where is the economic incentive to think about anyone with a wallet smaller than the kind you are selling to?
That kind of mentality doesn’t usually influence the bottom line. Maybe it should? Just so long as there’s no redistribution of wealth or government intervention. Catch the video below to hear more:
