Well, it may not be the most beautiful building/machine ever created, but this structure was created in Madrid to help generate energy to sell to electric companies — through the use of solar panels and trees. Created by Urban Ecosystems, the “Air Tree” is supposed to have a beneficial impact on Madrid’s environment.

The structure, made from lightweight, recyclable materials, can be easily disassembled and moved to another site when needed. Furthermore, the surrounding environment near the Air Tree will reduce the ‘heat island effect’ in the center of most cities. Rather, the trees will cool surrounding environments and also generate clean electricity.

The city plans to implement the trees city-wide in the coming years. Who knows — if this idea catches on, you could see one pop up in your own town!
