So it wasn’t Indy’s last crusade after all. The latest installment in the series, Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, is scheduled for a May 22nd release.
With the return of Indiana Jones to theaters just months away, speculation about the flick has been generating in full force among fans across the world (read: internet). Perhaps this is due to the fact that anyone involved with the project, from director Steven Spielberg all the way down to the extras, was required to sign a nondisclosure agreement regarding their knowledge of the movie.
/Film has reported sightings of the crystal skull, stating that devoted movie paraphernalia website Action Figure Insider has uncovered a flyer released by a Japanese company that has been commissioned to produce Indy-related toys.
The advertisement includes a picture of what appears to be the crystal skull. Its odd shape confirms that there will be some kind of alien-themed plot for the latest Indy flick.
The film’s producer, Frank Marshall, previously stated in interviews that the beings with these abnormal skulls were “shaped by higher powers” or that they were some form of alien life. Marshall has also alluded to the possibility of the ancient Mayan civilization playing some role in the explanation of the crystal skull.
