Wal-Mart has recently gotten into the medical game but not without some growing pains. It got burned recently when trying to launch some walk-in clinics, but they have a plan B.
Teaming with local hospitals, the discount city dynasty is joining with 400 hospitals to open “The Clinic at Wal-Mart.”
But the issue is that would only be affordable to upper and middle-class echelon of consumers. One stop shopping has never been more true to form and Wal-Mart is cashing in.
This isn’t new. CVS and Walgreens are also entertaining and implementing the idea of walk-in clinics. And none of these businesses would be doing this if there wasn’t a cash cow lurking in the distance.
These retail clinics will be staffed by nurse practitioners or physician assistants, caring for minor ailments and illnesses such as colds, flu, sore throats and the like. And Wal-Mart has revealed that more than half of those treated at its clinics are, you guessed it, uninsured.
