For tech enthusiasts, Engadget is no unfamiliar destination. The bloggers over there routinely scoop great news and aren’t afraid to step on toes to do it. But one of their subsidiary sites, Engadget Mobile, has recently been served a legal notice because of the website’s use of a color. Deutsche Telekom, the owners of T-Mobile, told them to stop using the color magenta because they claim to hold trademark protection. On a color…
They say because the site uses magenta in their headings and logo, it’s in violation of their brand. I’m no lawyer, but this is the first time I’ve heard of a company exercising a legal notice for protected use of a color.
Let’s remember that this is a website, not a phone carrier or service provider. Engadget is taking the letter in stride by covering the site in magenta for April Fools. Joke’s on T-Mobile!
If you’re curious about the actual claim, check out the letter they sent right here.
