Robots are stealing our jobs.
Not to perpetuate robot-fear (robotophobia?) or anything, but seriously robots are putting us all out of work. Trend Hunter has put together a fabulous and quite thorough list of “36 Freaky Robots With Human Jobs.”
Starting off, we have multiple, that’s right, multiple versions of robot receptionists. There are four versions of these robot secretaries so far. The first on the list, Phorone, is capable of “delivering human-like expressions” and can talk. The company that designed her hopes that their product will one day replace human secretaries. What’s wrong with telling another human being you’re here for your 2 o’clock appointment?
The list only gets worse. There are robotic babysitters employed by department stores to watch unruly children while their parents peruse the sale racks. Also coming to a mall near you is Robovie, the robot designed to help you find your way when you’re lost of get separated from your group. He can scan the crowd and analyze the behavior of up to 20 people at a time.
My favorite bot, however, is the one designed to help cure cancer by laughing at all your jokes. We all know laughter is the strongest medicine after all. Say, that reminds me of the Bad News Robot who would be there for you no matter what your diagnosis:
