I’ll go out on a limb here and say pretty much everyone at PopFi, for one reason or another, leans towards a good admiration of the thrifty, crafty, and otherwise brazen. Well, you have to admire the craftiness of retired Japanese government worker Shuhei Ogawara, who took two years’ worth of discarded disposable chopsticks from the city cafeteria and turned them into a canoe. The best part is that it’s a great-looking boat!
If I go to a Chinese restaurant, I’ll inevitably pick up the chopsticks if given a choice. Why? I don’t know; why not? If you can use them, you may as well show off. Usually, after dinner, I’ll keep the chopsticks and take them home. A quick trip through the washing machine generally makes me feel better about keeping them, then.. well, then, usually one of them disappears and the other becomes a coffee stir before it eventually gets lost or thrown out. At least I’m trying to recycle!
