Star Wars fans everywhere swooned and nearly fainted when they heard the news back in February that George Lucas was going to film a seventh installment in their beloved movie franchise. Not only that, but George promised the movie would be a lead-in to a series set to debut in the fall.
I’m not sure, however, that many of them continued swooning once they realized that both the film and series are going to be animated. No Ewan McGregor, no Natalie Portman, no Hayden Christensen.
Just a bunch of voice over talent and animation that io9 reports is meant to be in the same style as Gerry Anderson’s Thunderbirds puppet show (what exactly that means I don’t know, but they seemed impressed), but to me looks like a combination of the Legos cartoon and the Burger King mascot.
I don’t mean to be a Debbie Downer in any way, and it is very exciting to know that certain masterminds are dedicated to fleshing out their stories and continuing the journey for the fans. However, the last time a popular movie franchise went animated for a “long-awaited” sequel, things didn’t go so well. I’m lookin’ at you, TMNT 4.
Below is a glimpse at one version of a leaked trailer for the new film titled Star Wars: The Clone Wars set to premiere sometime this fall. Click here for an alternate version featured on the io9 website.
