It looks like Transformers has given Shia Labeouf’s career a bit of a boost. The child actor turned hot member of young Hollywood is set to star in the upcoming Indiana Jones revival and the Transformers sequel.
Not only that, but he’s about to become a genius. A very strong, fast genius. Labeouf has been chosen to play Eddie Spinola in the film adaptation of the 2002 Alan Glynn novel The Dark Fields.
Former coke addict Spinola, sick of his life, discovers the drug MTD-48 that makes him far more charming and intelligent than he could ever imagine. And the side effects of becoming increasingly more and more homicidal don’t seem to bother him.
Perhaps you’ve never heard of this book before. That’s okay. Apparently, not many people have. It doesn’t even have its own Wiki page. It also cannot be purchased new on Amazon. Which can only mean one thing: this is going to be one crazy, wacked-out, obscure movie.
And Shia is just the face to put on the poster. It’s a far cry from Even Stevens, but everyone’s got to break away from their past at some time.
The other names involved in the project only make it that much more odd. Neil Burger (The Illusionist) is set to direct and Hairspray remake screenwriter Leslie Dixon has been enlisted to write.
