Let’s all be honest. Nobody likes the middle of the week. Monday through Thursday, for most of us with traditional jobs, is a terrible period where work leads to dreading more work the next day. Sometimes, I’m not ashamed to admit, I like to take the edge off with a beer or two with dinner or while watching a movie. And now, thanks to the just released results of the 2008 World Beer Cup, I’ll be able to try the best of the new brews! Just not in Russia.
Of the award winners, and of the ones I’ve heard of, two things stood out. One, Blue Moon is an excellent beer, so I’m not surprised that it won best large brewery. I was very surprised at Milwaukee’s Old Style Light winning best American-style light lager. Old Milwaukee? Really? Maybe too many years of Old Milwaukee’s Best in college has turned me off the brand.
I’ll have to give it a try again sometime, but first I’ve got to find some BrewDog Paradox Grain. If you’re new to beer, never fear. The Inventor Spot article above offers helpful hints for pairing your beer with food, and what you’ll expect when you pick up your first pint of dry stout. Pretty soon, you’ll be a beer snob like me!
