There’s a little plastic guy with a big head who is popping up in the strangest of places. His name is Bobblehead George, and his website Where’s Bobblehead George? is getting a lot of attention these days, for a very good reason. From his home base in Nashville, Tennessee, Bobblehead George has gone to Hollywood, cuddled up to the bountiful bosom of Jessica Simpson, and has even visited the birthplace of democracy, Greece! What’s Bobblehead George traveling the world for?
Jim Reams is one of the most inventive bloggers in the bustling Nashville blogosphere. He was the first blogger/barbeque maven, and now he’s turning his time and creative energy to a good cause. Hereditary Angioedema, or HAE, is a rare, potentially fatal genetic disorder that causes random swelling in areas of the body. If it strikes the person’s throat, it can cause fatal suffocation. Even when not dangerous, it is very painful, and as of now there is no cure. Reams, whose 7-year-old daughter Sophie battles the disease, decided to turn the joke website into a way to raise money and awareness about HAE, which occurs in only one out of every 10-50,000 people.
What started as a giveaway honoring a local sportscaster at a Nashville Sounds minor-league baseball game has become something much more meaningful. Bobblehead George is on a crusade, and every dollar can make a difference. Thousands of people around the world suffer from HAE, but maybe the attention Bobblehead George is getting can do a little good. If rubber ducks can raise money, why not a spring-necked sportscaster?
