Join me briefly in song, won’t you? “In Bolivar Peninsula, in mighty Bolivar Peninsula, the lion swims tonight.” That’s right; in Bolivar Peninsula, Texas, a lion that couldn’t evacuate in time before Hurricane Ike had to swim it out while locked inside a church.
But that’s not the best part.
The best part is that lion that was locked in the church had people to hang out with. I’m not quite sure what’s worse in this situation. Do you want to take your chances outside with the hurricane raging and flood waters rising, or do you want to lock yourself in a church with a lion with a hurricane raging outside and flood waters rising?
As Dave Barry noted, the key quote in this story comes from the lion’s owner, Michael Ray Kujawa. “When you have to swim, the lion doesn’t care about eating nobody.”
