With the arrival of fall, that means Halloween is right around the corner. For those of us who are fascinated by all things macabre, that means haunted house tours, ghost walks, and if you’re really lucky, a visit to some awesome ghost towns like the seven scary ghost towns over at Cult Case. I’ve never had the pleasure of visiting an official ghost town like Bodie or Helltown, but I have visited a lot of abandoned and/or haunted places over the years, including the famous Waverly Hills Sanitorium and the site of the Battle of Tebbs’ Bend.
I think that ghost towns are very important, even if you’re not a big fan of scaring yourself with horror movies and demonic possession tales. There are always examples of classic architecture to admire, and a lot of old ghost towns can show us what happens when nature reclaims what man once took from the land. They might even offer a startling glimpse into the future.
Still, for my money, there is nothing like a good scare. Like, for example, the shadow people I saw all through my trip to Waverly Hills, and the spook I believe followed me back to my college dorm room from Tebbs Bend battlefield (and wreaked havoc on my electronics until I consulted with a spiritually-attuned friend and sent it away). Yeah, I’m a big believer that there are things out there we don’t understand.
Even if I can’t quantify my experiences with EMP readings, I know what happened to me, and I know I was skeptical enough then not to buy into hearsay.
