Jake, a 14-pound rat terrier, is the luckiest dog in the world. No, he didn’t win the lottery, but he certainly gambled with his life and won thanks to his brave owner, Greg LeNoir. It was during the dog’s daily swim that Jake encountered a 5-foot-long shark off the coast of Islamorada, Florida. One big bite later and Jake has disappeared. Fortunately for Jake, his owner jumped into the water, and punched the shark until it let the dog go!

I loved my now-departed rat terrier/Cocker Spaniel mix dog, and I would’ve done anything for him, but I’m not sure I could have jumped into the water and faced off with a hungry shark. Amazingly enough, Jake the dog is cut up but otherwise unharmed no doubt thanks to Greg’s quick thinking and selflessness. I shudder to think what would have happened if Greg and Jake had run into some of the freakier fish in the ocean.
