When you think of the moneyed elite, you think of places like New York, London, Los Angeles, Monte Carlo, and all the various and sundry capitals of Europe. These naturally seem like the sorts of places that money would congregate. Fine arts, world class food, glitz and glamour and all that sort of thing. Where you wouldn’t think of billionaires congregating is in the heart of the former Soviet Union, but that’s just the place that Forbes says contains more billionaires than anywhere else in the world.
Moscow has, officially, 74 billionaires worth an average of $5.9 billion dollars American. New York, the second-highest concentration of the uber rich, has 72 billionaires worth a paltry $3.3 billion dollars. London is a distant third with 36 billionaires. America still has the most cities in the top ten with four (New York, LA, San Francisco, and Dallas in no particular order), but when it comes to the rich getting richer, Moscow is showing they’re ready and willing to compete with the world’s power centers when they’re not accidentally drilling a hole into Hell itself.
Of the cities in the top ten, the richest collective of billionaires reside in Mumbai, India. The 20 billionaires who call this monstrous city home are worth a staggering $7.6 billion dollars on average! India seems like one of the oddest places for the super rich to live, but I guess they’re all really big fans of the Chand Baori.
